SCITURDAYS

Science happens Saturdays at the CLC! SCIturdays at the Challenger Learning Center are designed for you and your child to learn new skills while having fun together! On the second and fourth Saturday of the month, join us for a hands-on, family-friendly workshop featuring a STEAM topic: science, technology, engineering, art and/or mathematics. Discover new interests and engage in a fun-filled morning!

COST

The cost is $10 per person per program. ALL participants pay the admission fee (children and adults). SCIturday participants must be signed out before 12:15 p.m. to avoid a $1/minute late charge. Cost includes all materials. Second SCIturday programs are recommended for ages 10 & under and participants ages 6 & under require a paid accompanying adult. Fourth SCIturday programs are recommended for ages 9 to 99 and participants ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

REGISTRATION

The registration form must be completed and submitted before 12:00 p.m. the day before the program. Registration is complete and confirmed on receipt of completed registration form and full payment. Programs are limited in size; therefore, registrations will be processed on a first-come, first serve basis.

October 8, 2022: Dancing Robots

Celebrate Teach Central America Week! Learn about the countries and cultures in Central America and program LEGO WeDo 2.0 robots to dance the merengue, salsa, samba, bossa nova, and tango. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

October 22, 2022: Minecraft Mania

Are you the cleverest Minecraft creator? Bring a friend and compete with other teams in a dozen build challenges that test your imagination and Minecraft skills. Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

November 12, 2022: LEGO Zoologists

Bring the family and unleash your LEGO skills! Learn about different habitats and build LEGO models of animals that live in each environment. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

November 26, 2022: SCIturdays 3D 

Carve out your name and a design of your choice using a 3D carver, then use 3D pens to create mini astronauts and other space objects. Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

December 10, 2022: Minecraft Mania

Are you the cleverest Minecraft creator? Bring the family and compete with other teams in a dozen build challenges that test your imagination and Minecraft skills. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

January 14, 2023: Coding Bees

It’s World Logic Day! Code BeeBots to perform tasks and tell a story, then enter the world of Minecraft to code with Minecraft bees!  Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

January 28, 2023: Challenger Anniversary: Rendezvous with a Comet

In memory of the STL-51 crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger, fly a mission aboard the Space Mission Simulator to study Halley’s comet. Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

February 11, 2023: Sphero Carnival

Learn about all kinds of robots, and program Sphero robots to do various activities, from navigating an obstacle course to playing Sphero soccer. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

February 25, 2023: Movie Magic

Bring your friends, costumes, makeup and more! Learn the behind-the-scenes of moviemaking and write, storyboard, film and edit a short film to see it on the big screen in the Downtown Digital Dome. Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

March 11, 2023: Robot Roundup

Meet different robots, from tanks to spiders to humanoids, then program Cubettos and Cubelets to sharpen your problem-solving skills. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

March 25, 2023: Launch Day

Learn some real rocket science! Implement Newton’s laws, build paper rocket bodies, fins, and cones, then assemble and launch them high into the air. Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

April 8, 2023: Explosive Chemicals

Learn about the periodic table of elements, put on goggles and gloves, and see which elements create a BANG! Features live demonstrations and messy activities. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

April 22, 2023: Minecraft Rollercoasters

Celebrate Earth Day by building a Minecraft rollercoaster that spans biomes! Learn about the seven major Earth biomes while exploring your creativity. Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

May 13, 2023: LEGO Vehicles

Explore vehicles big and small! Use your LEGO skills to build dozens of vehicles that fit specific jobs – and put your creativity to the test. Recommended for ages 10 and under; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.      

May 27, 2023: Nintendo on the Big Screen

Discover the science and history of videogames, then apply your gaming skills in a Nintendo Switch tournament on the big screen! Recommended for ages 9 to 99; ages 8 & under require a paid accompanying adult.

NO-SHOW POLICY

If a registered participant does not arrive 15 minutes after the start of the program, they will be considered a no-show. No-show spots are non-refundable.

CANCELLATIONS/REFUNDS

No refunds will be offered for SCIturdays programs. For cancellations received at least 48 hours prior to any program, your registration fee may be applied to future SCIturdays programs.

AUTHORIZED PICK-UP

All parents and authorized individuals must present photo identification when picking up your child(ren) and be listed as an authorized individual on the registration form.
