Unlocking Migraine: The Sodium Connection

Migraine is a disabling and recurrent neurological disorder affecting 38 million people in the United States. The primary cause of migraine progression is unclear. In this lecture, learn how high field magnetic resonance imaging of sodium and other technology has been utilized to evaluate the dynamic physiological changes that follow the trigger of a migraine.

Dr. Samuel C. Grant is an associate professor at the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and director of the MRI program at the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory. Dr. Grant’s research demonstrates a particular focus on sodium MRI, localized spectroscopy and high field contrast. Current efforts are directed toward the evaluation of neurodegenerative disease (e.g. migraine and stroke) as well as novel therapies to treat them.
