The Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee is a 32,000 square-foot facility located on Kleman Plaza
in downtown Tallahassee. The Center is the K-12 outreach facility of the Florida A&M University -
Florida State University College of Engineering and uses aerospace as a theme to foster long-term interest in
math, science and technology, create positive learning experiences and motivate students to pursue careers
in these fields. To accomplish this mission, the Challenger Learning Center features a state-of-the-art
Space Mission Simulator, and utilize the immersiveness of an IMAX theatre and a domed planetarium together
creating an unforgettable educational experience.

Web Design Intern
We are currently looking for a part-time intern to optimize and redesign our website for use on mobile devices. The candidate should be organized, responsible, attentive to details and available at least 10 hours per week. Flexible shifts available to accommodate most schedules. Opportunity to enlarge design portfolio with real world project. Knowledge of Flash, Photoshop, HTML, CSS and Dreamweaver required. Experience with mobile websites a plus.

Education Intern
An intern is needed to assist the Flight Directors ( Leon County school teachers) of the
Challenger Learning Center of Tallahassee. The intern’s responsibilities may include:
aligning activities to Sunshine State Standards, Alabama State Standards, and Georgia State
Standards; assisting the Associate Flight Directors in the development of pre and post mission
activities for both teachers and students; developing lesson plans for teachers to utilize in
the classroom; organizing teacher development workshops; and creating kid friendly activities
to post on the center's website. An education major specializing in science and/or math is preferred.

Accounting Intern
The person in this position will work directly with the Challenger Learning Center's Accountant,
Office Manager and Director and are responsible for assisting in accounting and cash handling tasks.
These tasks may include: recording, processing, and reporting of financial transactions, completion
of weekly/monthly financial statements and reports, preparing weekly/monthly royalty payments,
and ensuring the correct recording of daily receipts. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
Familiarity with Quickbooks is preferred.

Part-time Employment
The Challenger Learning Center is always accepting applications. Please complete a FAMU Job
Application and bring it to the Challenger Learning Center Administrative Offices located at
200 South Duval Street on Kleman Plaza in Downtown Tallahassee. We will hold your application for
one year and on an “as needed” basis we will conduct interviews for OPS staff members. Following is
are OPS jobs that often need filling:
Guest Services Staff
Hosting staff will be cross-trained in the box-office, concession stand and gift shop.
Those selected for this position will work directly under the Guest Services Manager. Duties may
include, but are not limited to: concession sales, food prep, inventory for concession and/or gift shop
items, ticket sales, answering guest service phone line. All employees in this position are expected to
be customer satisfaction experts and must also contribute to the Center by maintaining a clean and
pleasant environment for all who visit.

Flight Directors
Flight Directors must possess general knowledge of astronomy, earth and space science,
good public speaking skills and must enjoy working with children and large groups. Desire
to learn new technology is a must. Those in this department will work closely with our
education staff to plan and facilitate the education process at the Challenger Learning Center.
The primary tasks of this position is to serve as the Flight Commander during space mission simulations,
however additional tasks may include the supervision of children, coordinating and planning classroom
experiences (i.e. word-searches, crosswords, hands-on activities), completing online research assignments,
aligning curriculum to state standards, and on-location promotional assistance. A person in this position
must also possess creative initiative and documented experience as well as a desire to work with school-age
children.
